Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

1. What is the Tier Classification?

The tier system of recording a level of play is reserved for indoor M/W 6's and M/W 4's & outdoors M/W 4's and M/W 2's, in short when the same sex that makes up the composition of a team. Tier 1 denotes university/college level of play. Tier 2 is for players who played the format on a regular basis or at a competitive level. Tier 3 is for players who are just learning the format of the game whether it be 2's, 3's, 4's or 6's.

2. When is the B/A/AA/AAA classification used?

Letters denote the level of play in co-ed indoor or outdoor volleyball. Examples of formats would be co-ed 6's, 4's, 3's & 2's. B would be for players just learning the format or game of volleyball. A would be players who consistently play the format. AA would be players who play competitively in the format with usually one or several players on the team consistently downing (earning a point) the volleyball. AAA or open players are assured of their skills in all aspects of the game with some even competing for prize monies.

3. What are the league/tournament format rules?

4. When do Tournaments start?

Both indoor & outdoor, unless otherwise specified, tournaments commence play at 9:00am. Your team must be on-site to warm-up by 8:40am. Nets are set-up by 8:30am.

5. When do Outdoor Leagues start?

Precisely at 6:15pm. You are encouraged to get to the field location by 5:45pm to check-in, stretch, warm-up, etc.

6. When do Indoor Leagues start?

Either at 7:00pm / 7:30pm or 8:30pm / 9:00pm. You must be at your gym location at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled start times. Check-in with the League Coordinator on arrival.

7.When does the Championship Match start for outdoor tournaments?

Bearing in mind the expiration of the Parks Board permit and general liability insurance coverage, whether it is in the double knockout play-offs for grass or the beach and it is after 5:00pm, the Championship Match shall be one rally point game to 31, win by 2. Certain circumstances may apply, enquire with the Tournament Director or designate.

8. What is the Rainout Policy?

The grass/beach league rainout hotline (604) 255-2832 is updated daily after 4:30pm when the weather is questionable. League cancellation(s) shall be made up at the end of the session dependent on field availability. It is your responsibility to check the rainout hotline & be at the field/beach on time.

Tournament & special event rainout information is updated after 7:30am. It is your responsibility to check the rainout hotline & be at the site on time.

Time or game default rules shall apply.

Tournament(s) & special event(s) may be rescheduled if there are no conflicts in future dates.

9. What Method of Payment do you take?

Full payment in cash or by post dated cheque before the first night of the league & when you arrive for the tournament or special event. Individuals/teams participating for the first time shall provide an up front 50% non-refundable deposit.

The courtesy obligation is on you to telephone when you can not field a team for a tournament or special event. You are responsible to find your own sub(s) for all league play. If there is ample notice, we may be able to assist.

If you pre-register for an entire series of leagues &/or tournaments, you may be required to place a 100% non-refundable deposit to hold your spot(s).

10. What is TFC Volleyball Athlete Sponsorship Policy?

To be considered as a TFC Volleyball sponsored athlete one shall:

- have a better than 3.0 grade point average
- understand the philosophy of TFC Volleyball
- have participated in a league, tournament or special event
- demonstrate in writing your activism in the community
- outline why you should be chosen for sponsorship.

11. Can anyone Participate in your Events?

You do not have to be a member to participate in leagues, tournaments or special events. However, we do maintain a list of active players and TFC "members". Please ask to be added to our TFC mailing list.

You have to play in at least one league night to be eligible to play in the play-offs.

Sub(s) are only permitted if an injury or unforeseen circumstance occurs during tournament or special event play. A substitute player must have played in the tournament or special event & must come from the same or lower division of play. 

12. Who takes down the nets?

Generally, the losing teams in league play bring in the net system. Please, check the general area to insure all the equipment & garbage is picked up. We bring in the net system in tournament or special event play.
